PhD Schools
Third level educationThe Phd Programmes of the University of Verona are organized within the PhD School, for the purpose of stimulating and encouraging the interaction between the different research fields, namely: Life and Health Sciences, Law and Economics, Natural Sciences and Engineering, Arts and Humanities, as provided by the Statute of the University of Verona.
The PhD School manages to coordinate and support the initiatives promoted within the 22 PhD Programmes, with a particular focus on soft skills training. All PhD candidates are offered language courses, IT and research metodology training courses as well as a wide selection of seminars on academic skills and topics of common interest among the different Programmes.
The PhD School guarantees that high-quality education is delivered, encouraging the collaboration with Italian and foreign universities and research institutes, especially through the drafting of international cooperation agreements, double degree programmes and framework schemes for PhD thesis individual co-tutoring. This way, the PhD School offers to young researchers the opportunity of developing research and collaboration projects at an international level.
The PhD School strives to establish links with the territory and its productive system, also by encouraging collaboration with companies and public and private entities that carry out research and development activities, with the aim of creating intersectorial and industrial paths, apprenticeship programmes and fellowship funding.
The PhD Programme represents the highest and most qualifying level of post-graduate university training: the PhD School carries out its role with the strong awareness that young doctoral student professional growth represent the best investment that universities, institutions and companies can make.
Governing Bodies
The PhD School governing bodies are the Director and the Board.
The Director for the three-year academic period 2023/2026 is Claudio Maffeis, Full Professor specialising in Paediatrics and Gastroenterology and Digestive Endoscopy, supported as Deputy Director by Stefan Rabanus, Full Professor of German Language |

The PhD School is grouped into 4 macro-areas:
that collects all the 22 PhD programs offered, with a Joint PhD Programme in Accounting and Management with University of Udine and a National PhD Programme in Kinesiology and Sport Sciences. In addition there are a Joint PhD Programme in Linguistics in agreement with University of Bozen and a Joint PhD Programme in Mathematics in agreement with the University of Trento.
