Programma

The aim of the course is of course to improve the students' English, and it focuses on the four language skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students are set regular portions of the set book to read, which are then discussed in class. Students also learn the techniques of academic writing and presentation, and authentic reading and listening materials are used throughout the course.

Modalit� d'esame

First semester assessment: students are required to produce a piece of academic writing of between 800 and 1,000 words during the first semester, graded by the course teacher. Second semester assessment: a written exam in which students are asked to write around 500 words under exam conditions. Speaking exam: students do the exam in groups, in which everyone must give a five minute presentation on a topic decided by each individual student, followed by a question and answer session in which all students are encouraged to take part.
