Programma
The course aims to prepare students for the ‘prova informatizzata’ which includes exercises on word formation, a modified cloze exercise, a grammar exercise, a reading comprehension and a listening comprehension. Therefore, the course provides work so that students can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts, and recognize implicit meaning, and the correct use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices. Students need to develop their range and control of lexis by working on affixes and word families and word formation as well as on idiom and collocation in order to manage the cloze and word formation exercises. The cloze and grammar tests assess the students’ knowledge of grammar and so a good part of the course focuses on revision of structures already introduced and B2 level (reported speech, the passive, conditionals) and introduces other advanced structures such as inversion for emphasis, ellipsis, distancing and compound nouns and possessives as well as others. Just as reading comprehension is practiced to test students’ understanding also listening comprehension activities are an essential part of improving students’ ability to understand (and then in the oral exam to be able to respond).
