Programma

Using both the text book and other material, the students will learn the best way to complete an open cloze and to transform sentences. They will also learn how to produce an effective essay: plan the central part in note form, write an introduction, add a conclusion. Remedial work will be done on grammar as and when necessary and lexis will continue to be taught, in particular collocations. We will also do speaking practice in pairs, revising vocabulary on various topics as well as teaching interactive language and pronunciation correction. As the students become more proficient, exam practice will be done in class and for homework.

Modalit� d'esame

Written Exam (60 minutes) 1. Open Cloze: a short text with 10 gaps to be completed with one word in order to make the sentence grammatically correct and meaningful. This exercise tests grammatical words like articles, auxiliary verbs, pronouns, prepositions, linking words, verb forms, and lexical collocations, phrasal verbs, fixed phrases. 2. Sentence Transformations: 5 complete sentences followed by a key word and a second incomplete sentence to be completed so that it has a similar meaning to the first, using between 2 and 5 words including the key word, which cannot be changed. This exercise tests grammar and vocabulary by requiring the student to use different structures and words to express the same ideas. 3. Essay: writing an essay of approximately 200 words expressing opinion on a statement or discussing a topical question. The student should demonstrate the ability to organise and express their ideas clearly and coherently using a range of B2 level grammar and lexis. Dictionaries are not allowed in the exam. ORAL EXAM To be done in pairs (decided at the time of the exam): The exam consists of a conversation lasting 12-15 minutes in which the student should show that they can express themselves clearly and articulately. They should be able to answer general questions about themselves, compare/talk about photographs on their own and discuss a situation with their partner, expressing their opinions.
