Programma

We will cover all the grammar in the B1 syllabus: Present tenses, Future forms, Present perfect tenses, Past tenses, Past habits/states, Conditional tenses, Future time clauses, Comparative/superlative adjectives and adverbs, Articles: definite/indefinite/no article, Modal verbs of ability/possibility/permission, Modal verbs of obligation/necessity /prohibition/ recommendation/advice, Modal verbs of deduction, The passive, Reported speech, Gerunds and infinitives, Quantifiers, Relative clauses, Question tags, Phrasal verbs, -ing/-ed adjectives, Pronouns (subject/object /possessive-adjectives-pronouns/reflexive/reciprocal), Possessives/saxon genitive, Word order/position of adverbs. And the following lexical areas: Food/cooking/eating out, Describing people – appearance/personality, Money/shopping, Sport/hobbies, School/university/studying, Transport/travelling, Holidays/weekends, Families/relationships/friends, Films/books/entertainment, Work, Houses/where people live, Parts of the body, Clothes, Technology –computers/mobile phones, Famous people. We will practise the skills of reading and listening. We will also do some speaking in pairs in order to practise the grammar and lexis taught. The students will learn the best way to do a cloze test, a reading comprehension and a listening comprehension. Exam practice will be done in class and for homework.

Modalit� d'esame

COMPUTER TEST (45 minutes) 1) 2 Cloze Tests: these consist of a short text (about 200 words) with 12 gaps, where a word or words have been taken out. You have to complete these gaps, choosing from the list of 20 words at the top. The missing words are usually a mixture of grammatical and lexical items. 2) 2 Reading Comprehensions: these consist of a short text (about 200 words), which you have to read and then answer the 4 questions which follow to show you have understood it. Each question has 4 options and you have to choose the correct one. 3) 2 Listening Comprehensions: these consist of 2 short audio texts (about 40-60 seconds), which are followed by 4 comprehension questions with 4 options. For each question, you have to choose the correct answer, listening again if necessary. The total mark is a percentage and the pass mark is 60%.
