B2 Grammar Syllabus Articles Conditionals, time clauses. Clauses of contrast and purpose. Passive form + it is said/thought etc. It’s time, I’d better, rather Reported speech + reporting verbs. Modals verbs and verbs of deduction – present and past Gerunds and infinitives Used to, be used to, get used to Structures after wish Relative clauses Common phrasal verbs. Causative – have/get/let someone (to)do something One of the most important tasks at B2 is the development of vocabulary and particular language in context, more complicated structures and an emphasis on the meaning and use of words with a view to enhancing communicative competence and improving pronunciation. In the course which prepares students for the B2 written and speaking exams students, there is a general overview of grammar with the introduction of more advanced structures and lexis. Students also practise exercises on the written and oral exams. For oral practise there is a focus on pair and group work to give an opportunity to practise and improve fluency and general confidence. Speaking activities become more challenging and students should be able to communicate well on most everyday subjects. For the written work there is a greater importance placed on organisation of ideas, linking devices, spelling and clause structures. Work should be more concise and precise with fewer irrelevancies and errors. In the course, focus is placed on essay writing. And last but not least, we will have fun!
Modalit� d'esame
The written B2 exam consists of 3 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. Dictionaries are not allowed. 1. Open Cloze: a short text with 10 spaces to be completed with one word that makes the grammar and sense of the sentence correct. Missing words can be articles, auxiliary verbs, pronouns, prepositions, connectors, verb forms as well lexical words to complete collocation, phrasal verbs, fixed sentences. Any answer correct is worth 1 point for a maximum of 10 points. The spelling of the chosen word must be correct. 2. Sentence Transformations: There are 5 complete sentences followed by one keyword and one incomplete second sentence. You have to complete the second sentence in order for it to have it same meaning as the first, using between 2 and 5 words, including the keyword, which cannot be changed. In this exercise you need to know how to use different grammatical forms and synonyms to express the same ideas. Each sentence is worth 2 points each. Total: 10 points. 3. Essay: Write a essay of 180-200 words expressing your opinion on a statement or examining the pros and cons of an issue. The argument of the question can address the following topics: science and technology, the environment, school, culture, health, lifestyles, travel, and social issues. The evaluation of the topic will be based on the content, grammar, vocabulary, organization of the text, and the adequacy of language. This question is worth 20 points maximum. The maximum cumulative total is 40 points for the entire test which is then converted into a percentage. Speaking Exam: To be done in pairs (you will be assigned a partner at the time of the exam). The test consists of a 10-15 minute interview, in which the student demonstrates that he can express in a clear and articulate way a wide range of topics. The student must be able to express an opinion on a topical issue, indicating advantages and disadvantages of the different options. The student has the option (not mandatory) to prepare a topical article in advance and propose it as a topic for discussion. Students who wish to do this must inform the teacher when speaking exam lists are published.
